FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions About Wardrobe Management:
Q. How do you know if you need the help of a wardrobe consultant?
A. Do you ever ask yourself why you don’t look great everyday? It’s probably because not all your clothes make you feel alive—they should, or you shouldn’t wear them! Give yourself a little test. Ask yourself these questions:
- Is every outfit in your closet fail safe—does it look fantastic on you?
- Are you doing a good job of mixing your clothes—classic styles with modern designs and accessories to achieve a finished look?
- Do you find your wardrobe has many options and outfit variety?
- Do you wear and love everything in your closet?
- Do others often compliment you on your style/look?
- Do you always feel in style?

Q. What is the value in working with a wardrobe consultant?
A. There is always great value in looking good, feeling good and being in sync with yourself and others. When we look good, we feel confident and this creates a large boost to our self-esteem. Feeling this way has the power to draw others to you and it can create open doors and opportunities. Whether in business or play, we are always attracted to people who are polished, confident and sure of who they are. Remember, your personal style/image is derived from your core. The value of working with a wardrobe consultant is derived from investing time in yourself to explore who you are and unleashing your style to create the best possible you. Our goal is to help clients create a life-changing alteration based on their aspirations and budget.
Q. How do you know when your style needs to be updated?
A. Keeping yourself updated and maintaining your look with your wardrobe indicates that you are interested in a healthy, nurturing relationship with your personal style. This is a form of high self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth. You need to own your look and love what you see—that is the key to great style. You also need to define your own style and not imitate someone else’s. Your image is what you portray to others and it should be closely aligned with who you really are (the core of your existence and being). Judy Garland who once said, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, not a second-rate version of somebody else.”

Q. I watch the TV show “What Not To Wear”. How is Personal Vogue different?
A. Our concept of mixing classic pieces with contemporary designs allows for leveraging a complete wardrobe to create a personal vogue. The TV show “What Not to Wear” differs from Personal Vogue in that we highly regard education in reality dressing—to maximize who you are today based on your aspirations and budget—not to imitate someone else’s style. We are about “What to Wear”. We offer consultation on utilizing current resources and perhaps having some alterations made to freshen the look. We don’t provide rules but we offer choices and options on rebuilding the current wardrobe with clothes and accessories that will give a timeless style.
Q. Why is my closet filled with clothes, yet I wear the same things all the time?
A. If an outfit doesn’t look good on you in the dressing room that will not change when you get the outfit home. A lot of people buy clothes that they end up not wearing. The reasons are due primarily to directionless shopping, not understanding their body type or what works best on their silhouette, buying too much of the latest trends, ill-fitting items that need to be altered, and last but not least, not understanding what a real “value” is and how to spot it. Buying something cheaply made or at a bargain price—no matter how expensive it was originally—does not mean that what you bought is a good deal, especially if you are not going to wear it. It just means that you have another item to hang in your closet to add to the clutter that already exists. What you want to be is an informed shopper, have a plan for shopping and a keen understanding of how new items will complement your functioning wardrobe. If you spend $100.00 on a blouse and wear it twice per month for several years, then you have gained something. It’s called a “great” value. If you buy a blouse for $15.00 and never wear it, then you have lost something. The good news here is that it’s not a “great” loss.
Q. What is personal style and how do you develop it?
A. Personal style is the image of what you want to portray to the rest of the world. Real style is developed by knowing who you are and what makes you comfortable. Personal style is developed from self-examination of the inner you. You can fool some people some of the time, but you can’t fool yourself. We all need to know who we are at our core—our morals, our ethics and the standards we set for ourselves and perhaps those we set for others. A personal style is something you carry with you all the time. It is how you define you.
Q. What is the best way to shop for clothes?
A. The best way to shop for clothes is to shop with a purpose. It is much more fun to shop this way because you will have a sense of direction and you will save money. Remember, you owe it to yourself to spend your money on things that make you feel alive. Also, you should shop with an understanding of your body type and what styles work best for your silhouette. You should be informed enough about this to buy what looks great on you and not what a salesperson thinks looks great on you. The key is to be objective and honest with yourself about how you look in an outfit. Make sure the styles you choose flatter your best parts and de-emphasize your problem areas. The goal is to build a great wardrobe with an eye towards quality rather than quantity. Quality always triumphs. Q. Is there such a thing as the perfect body type?
A. No. Women come in all sizes, shapes, ages, walks of life and professions. They all come with concerns about one part of their body or another. This is common and quite human. We all have something about our shape that we wish we could change. The reality of the situation is that you can actually redefine your shape with the right styles. At Personal Vogue we promote reality or “truth in dressing.” Realism is the order of the day. We work with you relative to the body you have right now, and not the one you wish to have tomorrow. Remember, we all have assets and we need to learn how to make the most of them. Perfection is an illusion, so love your curves and move forward to making yourself the best possible you. It can and will happen.
